News and Information From Vale Lacemakers
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic we were unable to hold our normal April lace day – but we are Lacemakers and nothing gets in the way of that so we held a ‘Virtual Lace Day’ on our Facebook page
We advertised it through our message to members when we had to cancel the physical meet up and on various Lacemaking groups and pages on Facebook. Suffice it to say it proved to be a resounding success – we had over 300 ‘visitors’ throughout the day and over 100 more have checked out the event since.
So what was there at our Virtual Day – pretty much everything we have at a normal Lace Day! We had a thread for showing off your current work – and there were some beautiful pieces. We had a Suppliers Thread so you could shop and support them through these difficult times. Throughout the day links were posted to useful videos, Lace Exhibitions, the work of Lacemakers around the world, addictive collections of Lace on Pinterest and much more – plenty to keep people busy and entertained. We even had photos of Tea and Cake!
With visitors from all over the world there was much chat, a little gossip, and a lot of fun. You can still see all the posts on our page , feel free to like and comment – and post something of your own.
Since we held our day, several other lace Groups have taken up the challenge and held their own events so keep your eyes peeled and join in.
Our june meeting has already been cancelled as we feel it is unlikely that we will be able to hold it – however we will probably hold another Virtual Day – please drop in and visit – we would love to see what you are working on.
Our Christmas meeting was very well attended and a thoroughly enjoyable day. We were well entertained by Craig Hunt who spoke about Pantomimes and being a Pantomime Dame, ably assisted by Jenny Martin. Thank you to them both.
Our usual splendid Christmas lunch was much enjoyed and the tables all looked lovely thanks to our Table Decorations theme.
Not a great deal of lace was made but there was much fun and laughter amidst the munching.
We wish a merry Christmas to all our members.
Our October meeting (Sat 12th) was well attended with lots of people bringing items for the Bring and Buy. As usual a wide variety of work was underway and there was a great deal to look at and enjoy.
Details for the Christmas meeting were announced – as usual please bring your own crockery and cutlery for lunch. This year we have suggested Table Decorations as a theme.
Additionally it has been decided that the Rose Bowl Competition will be held at the April meeting instead of October. Rather than the choice of the previous winner in future members can enter any piece of work made in the previous year – any craft is eligible not just Lace. We hope this will produce lots of entries.
Our next Lace Day will take place on Saturday 11th October and promises to be a packed day.
We have a Glass painting workshop which is open to everyone.. If you wish to take part please bring along a piece of glass that you would like to paint. The cost of the workshop will be approx £2-00 to cover the cost of materials.
Our Supplier is the ever popular Margaret Wall with her lovely painted Bobbins – I can feel my cheque book wincing already!
Finally it is our annual Rose Bowl Competition, the theme this year is Bookmarks and I know you all have some somewhere so bring them along and enter the competition. You get to have the lovely Rose Bowl for a year and also to choose the theme for next year. Last Years winner is shown here
